VI – Present off Island View Beach and Cordova Spit on 10th & 13th with 120 on latter date.

 

Pigeon Guillemot Cepphus columba

VI – 190 Island View Beach 13th. Smaller numbers elsewhere including from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay ferry, Esquimalt Bay, Rathrevor Park and Oyster Bay Shoreline Park.

VI – 1 offshore from Esquimalt Lagoon 9th.

 

Rhinoceros Auklet Cerorhinca monocerata

VI – 15 offshore from Esquimalt Lagoon 9th, 7 Cordova Spit 10th, 20 Island View Beach 13th.

 

Feral Pigeon Columba livia

I try to ignore them, but there were several seen at a number of sites especially on Vancouver Island.

Int – 1 Okanagon Falls 19th, 1 Bobolink Meadows 19th.

Barred Owl Strix varia

VI – 1 Centennial Park 10th, 1 Swan Lake, Victoria 12th. The first of these was a remarkably showy bird which sat out in full view just a few feet away before swooping down to the edge of the stream and then returning to its branch in full view. Thanks to Rick Shylo for finding me this site and bird! The Swan Lake bird was being harassed by American Robins and wasn't seen nearly so well.

Int – 6 Bobolink Meadows 19th.

 

Anna's Hummingbird Calypte anna

VI – 1 Island View Beach 13th, 2 Swan Lake, Victoria 13th.

 

Belted Kingfisher Ceryle alcyon

Van – 1 Boundary Bay 8th, another Boundary Bay 9th.

VI – 1-2 seen at 8 sites 9th-12th (total 10 birds).

Int – Singles seen at 6 sites 15th-19th.

Belted Kingfisher, Boundary Bay, 9th September 2006. Though the dull rainy conditions forced a high ISO, I'm sure this beauty was more approachable than it would have been if it hadn't been chucking it down.

Northern Flicker Colaptes auratus

Van – 1 Ladner Harbour Park 8th, 1 Ladner town 8th, 1 heard Reifel 8th, 1 Boundary Bay 9th.

VI – Up to 20 seen at 4 sites including 10 Rathrevor Park 11th.

Int – Total of 17 seen at 10 sites including 4 around Okanagon Falls 19th.

Van – 1 Ladner Harbour Park 8th.

VI – 1 Island View Beach 10th, 2 Rathrevor Park 11th, 1 Swan Lake, Victoria 13th.

Int – 1-2 flew across the road at Yahk 18th.

Pileated Woodpecker Dryocopus pileatus

VI – 2 Rathrevor Park 11th, 1 flew over the queue waiting for the ferry at Swatz Bay 13th.

Int – 2 Emerald Lake 17th (1 seen, 1 heard).
