White Pelican (Great White Pelican) Pelecanus onocrotalus
The most common and widespread of the pelicans in Europe and neighbouring regions, though it could hardly be described as common or widespread. Some reports in NW Europe may involve wild vagrants from SE Europe or the Middle East but many relate to escaped birds. Anyone finding a pelican in NW Europe should take care to eliminate the rarer Dalmatian Pelican and also the potential vagrant but frequently escaping Pink-backed Pelican.
