Swan Goose Anser cygnoides

The ancestor of many of our domestic geese. Wild Swan Geese occur in east Asia and have not been recorded in Europe. The domestic forms may differ significantly from wild birds and photos of these can be found on the Domestic Goose page.

The birds shown on this page are captive wild-type birds, although I cannot exclude the possibility that they have some domestic goose in their ancestry. Indeed one of the individuals shows a little orange in the bill which, so far as I am aware, is not normal for pure wild Swan Geese.
