Stilt Sandpiper Calidris himantopus (Micropalama himantopus)

Until recently placed in its own genus Micropalama, this very rare vagrant from North America is now placed in the genus Calidris. The Burnham Norton bird shown below was a long-overdue addition to most local birders' county lists - it was the first Norfolk record for 40 years!

A rare bird in the UK at any age but juveniles are especially rare. The juvenile shown below was among a flock of Long-billed Dowitchers in western Canada.
