Sooty Shearwater Puffinus griseus

Frequently seen off the coast of Norfolk in the autumn, very rarely at other times.

That the species should occur here at all is quite extraordinary - they breed on the south-west coast of South America! The majority migrate north up the east Pacific but some move up the east coast of the Americas before dispersing east across the north Atlantic and into European waters.
