Rosybill (Rosy-billed Pochard) Netta peposaca

A South American species that's very unlikely to occur naturally in Europe, but a popular bird in captivity and escapes to appear from time to time.

At the collection where most of the following photos were taken there was a pair of birds present in at least 2004 that didn't quite match the expected appearance of a pure Rosybill (the male's back was too pale, for example) and so were presumably hybrids (perhaps with Pochard). Although subsequent observations post 2009 were of birds that looked ok (these are in some of the photos below) it's quite possible that these too weren't 100% pure either.

escaped male and female Rosybills, Blakeney Collection (Norfolk, UK), 7th December 2013 - technically escaped rather than captive as these were swimming round the outside of the collection following devastating floods, however they seemed to be trying to get back in!

captive male and female Rosybills, Martin Mere (Lancashire, UK), 26th December 2014 - I assume the bird in the second row is a young male given the reddish tones to the bill
